April is when the backroads really come alive. Patios open up, strawberries start showing up on menus, and small towns feel a little more awake again. If you’re looking for a slow Saturday (or Sunday) plan, here’s a full day mapped out with real stops worth the drive.

Start Your Morning in Arlington

  • Grab coffee and a croughnut (yes, we said croughnut…a mix between a croissant and a donut) at Barefruit Cafe. Local favorite, easy start, no rush.
  • Walk the square and browse a few local shops like S.Y. Wilson and Linen Rose Boutique.
  • The Arlington Square is also walking distance to the Farmers Market (happens on the third Saturday of the month) and walking trails.

Mid-Morning Drive to Somerville

A Lunch Stop You’ll Actually Remember

Make your way toward Mason for a can’t-miss stop: Bozo’s Hot Pit Bar-B-Q. No frills, just really good barbecue. Order a pulled pork sandwich and slaw…don’t overthink it.

Afternoon Scenic Stop

Head back west and stop at Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park. They have short walking trails and river views if you drive up to the overlook. It’s the perfect spot to slow things down again after lunch.

Sweet Treat Stop (Optional but Highly Recommended)

If you’ve still got time, swing up to Covington. Theo & Roe’s Ice Cream Parlor is worth those extra calories. Plus, you can walk around while indulging…so it really balances out!

Consider this your April itinerary…now all that’s left to do is go.
